Approved the process for the integration of the water supply service in the municipalities of Como and Brunate

Como – On the afternoon of Friday, June 12, 2026, the Como Acqua Shareholders' Meeting took place at Villa Gallia, the headquarters of the Province of Como. The mayors of the territory were called upon to vote regarding the acquisition project of the water business unit of LeReti S.p.A. and the consequent Takeover of the management of the aqueduct service in the Municipalities of Como and Brunate.

The Assembly unanimously expressed a favorable opinion, granting the Board of Directors the mandate to proceed with securing the financial resources necessary to finalize the transaction. The takeover represents a step provided for by current legislation, aimed at guaranteeing the principle of single management within the Optimal Territorial Area. Starting from January 1, 2027, Como Acqua will thus become to all intents and purposes the sole operator of the Integrated Water Service for the entire province of Como.

Service numbers in Como and Brunate

The perimeter subject to acquisition concerns the Municipalities of Como and Brunate, for a total of over 14,000 users approximately 85,000 inhabitants served. The water supply system, currently managed by LeReti, includes 12 wells, 3 treatment plants, 10 pumping stations with reservoirs, 7 pumping stations, and 11 reservoirs, as well as 2 lake intakes.

The network extends for a total of about 320 km, of which 310 km are for distribution, with managed water volumes amounting to over 10 million cubic meters per year. The system also requires an energy consumption of about 9.6 million kWh per year.

Water quality, resilience, and strategic value

The operation assumes strategic relevance from multiple perspectives. Firstly, in terms of water quality and of the security of supply, thanks to the integration of high-tech infrastructure and systems. Among these, a central role is played by the Baradello water treatment plant (“Caverna”), currently managed by LeReti, which can be integrated into the system for the benefit of the entire provincial territory.

Its production capacity and the presence of a significant reserve of treatable water represent a key element for managing potential water stress situations, as well as for addressing the issue of emerging pollutants in a structured manner.

The acquisition will also make it possible to develop important infrastructural synergies, through the enhancement of interconnections between aqueduct networks. These interventions will increase the resilience of the system, improving service continuity and the quality of the distributed water, as well as making water resource management more efficient on a provincial scale.

The expected benefits concern, in addition to the improvement of service quality and safety, also cost optimization through economies of scale, a greater capacity for investment planning, and an overall strengthening of the provincial water system.

Economic and organizational aspects

From an economic standpoint, the transaction is part of a defined regulatory framework, with the recovery of investments and costs recognized through the tariff system, in accordance with the criteria established by ARERA. The integration will make it possible to activate economies of scale, optimize operational management and strengthen investment planning capacity at the provincial level.

The operation also involves the transfer of about thirty employees to Como Acqua, in compliance with the regulations on business branch transfers, guaranteeing operational continuity and the enhancement of existing skills.
