July 4, 2025 – High temperatures, which have reached peaks of 36°C in recent days, and the prolonged lack of rain, absent since the beginning of June, are putting pressure on the water reserves of the Como area. Como Acqua, the Integrated Water Service Manager, is appealing to citizens and local administrations to promote responsible behavior and avoid waste, especially in view of the coming months.

The current situation does not present any striking elements of emergency, but atmospheric conditions combined with a significant increase in water consumption – up to double the annual average, also due to the intense tourist presence – are beginning to impact available reserves, leading to episodes of scarcity.

«Water is a precious common good, its availability linked to environmental and seasonal dynamics that today require greater awareness. Although not in a state of emergency – Como Acqua emphasizes – it is important to act with foresight and collaboration to ensure the continuity and quality of service, even during the hottest moments of summer.

To concretaally contribute to protecting this resource, simple, everyday actions are enough. These actions don't represent significant limitations for the user but, on a large scale, help contain pressure on the networks and ensure service continuity during periods of high demand. Limiting water use during the hottest hours of the day and, when possible, avoiding concentrated consumption between 5 PM and 6 PM are some examples. Furthermore, avoid waste such as washing yards, cars, and other vehicles; set irrigation for gardens and vegetable patches during the night hours to counteract immediate evaporation.

In situations of water scarcity, it is good practice to avoid filling swimming pools, which require many cubic meters of water. However, to submit requests for filling swimming pools – public or private – it is necessary to fill out the specific form. (downloadable at this link) and follow the instructions that will be provided.

Along with this appeal and with a view to constructive dialogue, Como Acqua relaunches the The Ten Commandments of Water, designed to help everyone – citizens, families, and businesses – implement gestures of sustainability and resource protection throughout the year.
