The mural designed by the students of the school's Lomazzo campus was inaugurated at the Como wastewater treatment plant
Como, December 18, 2024 – A project that combined art, creativity, a sense of belonging to the area, and civic education. The inauguration of the mural panel created by the students of the Fausto Melotti Art High School, Lomazzo branch, took place this morning, Wednesday, December 18, at the Como Acqua purification plant in the city. The mural has found its permanent home on the wall of the plant's internal building on Viale Innocenzo XI.

The work, conceived and created by students of the 4th and 5th grades of the school's figurative art section “L”, is part of a 2024 pilot project promoted by Como Acqua, the company that manages the Integrated Water Service at the provincial level, with the aim of combining art and awareness. At the center of the collaboration between the company and the schools, it was decided to place the themes of sustainability and the water cycle, a precious and essential resource for our planet. Through traditional techniques and an artistic vision inspired by the landscape of the city of Como, the students have brought to life a work that not only enhances the territory, but also enriches collective awareness of the need to protect and respect natural resources.
“The safeguard of water is a central theme for Como Acqua, and the involvement of the youngest allows us to raise awareness among future generations through an educational and creative approach – stated Laura Santin, president of Como Acqua This project makes us particularly proud: on the one hand, it highlights the talent of the students in our area; on the other, it strengthens dialogue with the local community through a universal and immediate language like art. The behaviors and choices of these younger generations will be decisive in building a more sustainable future.
“The students of classes 4L and 5L eagerly took on the challenge of creating a piece of art that would later be displayed inside a local company – added the professor Annamaria Conoscitore vice principal and instrumental function of relations with the territory of the Liceo Artistico Statale Fausto Melotti, Lomazzo branch Together with professors Paola Maritan and Monica Guzzetti, who coordinated the project with me, we emphasized the importance of water as an essential resource for life, an element to be preserved and valued, carrying forward themes dear to the institute, which has always been attentive to the needs of the local area and sensitive to sustainability and the environment. The students created about forty works, among which the one by student Chiara Piccininni, representing the pleasant Larian landscape, was selected. The hope of this work is that the entire Como community may always benefit from the ineffable beauty of its beloved lake.

The unveiling of the panel was followed by an educational session for the students in attendance: a guided tour of the Como wastewater treatment plant to explore the different phases of the water cycle and gain a close-up understanding of the importance of water treatment.
With this initiative, Como Acqua not only reaffirms its daily commitment to environmental protection and the enhancement of the local cultural heritage, but through projects that combine education, art, and sustainability, it seeks to involve the community in this important task.
Como Acqua would like to thank the Fausto Melotti Institute, Lomazzo branch, the Head Teacher Anna Proserpio, the entire teaching staff involved, in particular Professor Annamaria Conoscitore, for guiding and supporting the students in the conception and creation of the projects; a heartfelt thank you also goes to the students involved for the strong commitment that has distinguished them.
