Founded in 2019 by The European House – Ambrosetti with the mission of being the Multi-stakeholder Think Tank to develop scenarios, strategies, and policies in support of the extended water supply chain, with the aim of making Italy a European and global benchmark.
The event marked the debut of Como Acqua as a new member of the Valore Acqua per l’Italia Community, alongside prestigious brands from the energy, water, banking, chemical, and multi-utility sectors. Teamwork is essential to achieving results in a framework made challenging also by climate change and from the water crisis. For this reason, Eng. It is now essential to reach shared positions on priority issues for the efficient and sustainable management of the national water resource; to carry out an activity of advocacy qualified at the Italian and European level; develop innovative solutions through the know-how of authoritative and recognized players in the target market; facilitate the exchange of experiences; produce formalized content to support shared goals; and create awareness among the business community, i policymaker and civil society,” explains the President and CEO of Como Acqua.
Valerio De Molli, Managing Partner and CEO of The European House – Ambrosetti, enthusiastically welcomes the Community's new member: “Como Acqua is a significant player in the Integrated Water Service for Lombardy and the country system, and we are very pleased that it has decided to join Valore Acqua per l’Italia by The European House – Ambrosetti, consolidating the representation of the extended water cycle in our Community and adding an important territory. Now in its fifth edition, the Community confirms itself as the point of reference for the scenarios and strategies of the extended water supply chain in Italy, gathering experiences and testimonies from all regions.”.
In the previous four editions, the Water Value Italy Community has developed a structured Observatory to examine on a permanent basis the evolution of the reference scenario of the extended water supply chain in the world, in Europe, and in Italy. With the aim of measuring our country's results in comparison with the main competitor international, a number of Facts&Figures on the reference scenario at the global, European, and national levels. Specifically, the Observatory has developed, for the very first time, the mapping of the extended water supply chain in Italy and in certain European Union countries, through the reconstruction of a database containing multi-year economic data of all companies operating in the extended water supply chain, for a total of over 20 million observations and approximately 2 million companies analyzed.
The desire to raise the bar even further has been palpably perceived since the very first meeting of the fifth edition, held at the Milan headquarters of The European House – Ambrosetti. Nicola Dell’Acqua, the National Extraordinary Commissioner for the adoption of urgent interventions related to the water scarcity phenomenon, also took part. During the proceedings, the Commissioner outlined the Government's strategies on drought and resource management to the members of the Valore Acqua per l’Italia Community. Dell'Acqua outlined an emergency plan for the next 2/3 years aimed at bridging a gap quantified at 2/3 billion cubic meters of water. In particular, the Commissioner highlighted, there is a discrepancy between the South, where reservoirs are used for agricultural resources and for the public, and the North, where they are used mainly for hydroelectric purposes, which are not always compatible with other uses.
